The Lille-based band Deûle returns with a second album, L'Appel du Vide, co-released with Frozen Records. A sensitive, dark doom laced with black metal and industrial accents. With this new record, Deûle delivers a powerful work of hallucinated passages and dissonant rhythms, carving out a singular identity of its own. Out October 3rd, 2026.
Written in the basement of La Malterie in Lille over the course of 2025, L'Appel du Vide reflects the band's shared vision and their pull toward urgent, melodic, furious sounds, always tinged with a certain melancholy. Every composition grew out of jammed moments — starting from a theme, a rhythm or a melody — then shaped and refined through rehearsal sessions. The atmosphere shifts constantly, from a calm, almost jazz-like opening to intense climaxes, heavy or piercing. Blast beats weave through the album, alongside hammering, almost industrial passages, melodic surges, and far more ethereal moments, as on "Danse de chiens gris."
True to the album's title, the music is slippery — at times repetitive and pounding, at times fleeting and elusive. In total control, yet constantly on the edge of the abyss. The lyrics, written collectively, mirror the music: they deal with concrete, urgent subjects, personal or social, but can just as well be simply contemplative or poetic. The artwork illustrates the lyrics and the album's overall atmosphere, once again embodied by Lille and its architecture. Without its red bricks, Lille is grey. L'Appel du Vide would be its soundtrack — beautiful, furious and melancholic by design, one you willingly sink into.
Recorded and mixed at La Malterie by Charly Millioz in January 2026.
