L'Effondras – Ethel / Macon Heights
Release: 31/10/25

(ENG)
These two tracks were salvaged from the Anabasis sessions. They were considered too strange for the first album and too dark for the second. They were recorded in 2019, then abandoned and revisited before finally being mixed and mastered in 2024. These are pieces that had no place anywhere, but which fully deserve to exist on their own.
'Ethel' opens with something unusual for L'Effondras: an unapologetic vocal performance. Cavernous and spectral. It is supported by a sonic ensemble bordering on shoegaze, which could bring to mind Grivo's recent releases that explore this genre.
'Macon Heights' takes you somewhere else entirely. It features guitar washes, lap steel, mellotron and drums that seem to exist outside of time. It is the most ambient piece the trio has ever dared to create. It is a tense, introspective journey that is almost unsettling and closes with the dry sound of a folk guitar. This track was born from collective experimentation, a drift that embraces its strangeness.
It sits somewhere between the sounds of Earth, BIG|BRAVE, Emma Ruth Rundle and Slint. Anti-post-rock at its most uncompromising and poetic.
